<Lines of Afterimage> is a curated collection of natural curves and everyday straight lines captured throughout the artist's journey across Europe. The artist interprets the nature of memory through the concept of the 'Line.' The physical property of the horizon—which appears as a perfect straight line from a distance but loses its form and becomes blurred upon approach—mirrors the reality of the memories we strive to hold onto.
In this series, intentional contrast is employed to visualize the bias of memory. By leaving only specific objects that serve as the seeds of memory and replacing the remaining background with spreading lines, the work depicts the form of memory as it is selectively extracted and transformed.
<잔상의 선>은 유럽에서의 삶의 여정 속에서 포착한 자연의 곡선과 일상의 직선들을 기록하고 큐레이션 한 결과물이다. 작가는 기억의 속성을 ‘선(Line)’으로 해석하며, 멀리서 보면 선명한 직선 같지만 다가갈수록 형태가 모호해지는 수평선의 물성을 우리가 붙잡으려 애쓰는 기억의 실체에 투영한다.
이번 연작에서는 기억의 편향성을 시각화하기 위해 의도적인 대비를 활용했다. 기억의 단초가 되는 특정 오브제만을 선명하게 남겨두고, 그 외의 배경은 번져나가는 선들로 치환함으로써 선택적으로 추출되고 변형된 기억의 형태를 묘사한다.
